恰哥與肥佬

There are two different versions of the game, some slight differences in the cdrom printing.
I own one of them, the one with the game name in the lower half of the disc. The redbook audio is corrupt (sound skips). Anyone with the other version to verify if the disc content is identical?

I tryed install the game directly from MDX-image in my UltraISO but the game is not launch anyway. Maybe need we a real burned CD to run the game? It seems, we need convert it into ISO-image for UltraISO. I am using UltraISO so I can try to launch the game from converted ISO-image.

 

The problem of my disc is with the audio tracks. The game installs and runs correctly. If you convert it to iso, you loose redbook audio.

As I thought, I found at least 3 versions of the game in Taiwan, look at the differences:


On the left, version with glossy colored jewel case inserts. On the right, b/w low quality paper insert (when available).


Slight differences in the layout of various elements on the disc label. Different software house / publisher.


Third version, mostly identical to the first one, different logo and extra chinese word on top-left. I wonder its meaning.

I have the first two versions, the disc on the right is the dump already available with garbage (jittery) audio tracks. The other one has good audio and I'll make a backup soon!

The third type of disc (last photo) is the most rare, while the one with the game name off-centered is the easiest to find (but it has corrupt audio tracks).

 

Apparently, that Chinese word "贈品" means "giveaway".

Thank you very much for discovering a copy with good audio tracks, by the way!
Speaking of which, I wonder if it also has remnants of CIH virus in uninstaller, like the previously available one does?
Not that it matters, as it's likely some inactive traces anyway, but I'm just curious.

P.S. MDX image from eyny.com is useless, as it's of the same "bad" version with damaged audio tracks.

 

I hoped to fix that problem too, but the new disc is "infected" too!
I wonder if the "bad" version is a bootleg, considering how many copies are floating around. We're dealing with china taiwan software so I wouldn't be that surprised. If you can understand chinese, I'll make clear scan of the publishers stamped on the discs.

By the way, I got a disc of AV天后女優麻將 too. Another bad dump by Minping is now fixed.

 

Well, I personally don't understand Chinese, but @WERTA should, plus there's a way to perform OCR and translation through Google's new "Lens" service, so that one would also be an option to use with good scans!
I actually won't be surprised if even the "bad" edition is 100% official; might as well be just a faulty batch and/or they just didn't bother to check.
For example, there's an apparently official Chinese release of The Broken Land that also has damaged audio tracks (although that one is mainland China, while Taiwanese release is good), and there's also an official localization of Relics released by Softstar that uses just one CD when original game had 2, so it has no CD audio at all (and it was a deliberate choice, because they moved videos from CD2 to CD1).

 

Scans of two cdroms, front and back, quality is not as good as expected though!

Looks like the one with off-centered game name might be some kind of test run or prototype, or at least that's the impression I got from its mastering code/inner ring that says "CD-DEMO".
Chinese words on that version are just a short name of the "brand" that this publisher (SoftWorld) used for their PC releases and the game's own name.
The others's version mastering code uses full developer's (FunYours) name in Chinese and adds "V1.30" after the game's name, so it must be a later one.

As for the text at the bottom of the discs' front sides, the "off-centered one" has "隨書贈逬◆遊戲完整版", which means (at least according to DeepL) "Free booklet◆Game Full Version", so maybe that's how that "demo" version was distributed - with nothing but a booklet.
For the V1.30 one that spot simply has full publisher's name and their aformentioned brand's name.
The rest of text matches, it seems.

 

I tested the discs with Viceversa™ (I ♥ this tool!) and this is the final result...

 

So the discs' contents are otherwise identical, except for corrected audio tracks? Well, good thing they at least bothered with fixing those at all.

By the way, here's a fun fact that it didn't know about SoftWorld: apparently they used that brand "軟體世界" not just for PC game releases, but also for a gaming magazine that they were promoting those releases through.

According to that article, since July of 1995 they started to include game demo CDs with that magazine, so maybe that's where that "demo" version of this game comed from (I guess it would also explain why that version is more common that the "proper" jewel case release)?

 

By the way, htf is this game supposed to sound in english? Chuck and (the) fat(ty)? Chago and the fat(so)? Chaco...?
